During the October 20th meeting, the Parkland School Board unanimously adopted of a formal resolution opposing the proposed Project Atlas data center directly across from Parkland High School.
The resolution follows months of careful due diligence by the Board and District administration. Board members have taken seriously their responsibility to understand the potential consequences of placing a large-scale industrial data center beside the high school campus—including generator and mechanical noise, lighting, emergency-response concerns, backup-power and fuel-storage issues, traffic, security, and the potential effects on the day-to-day learning environment for Parkland High School students and faculty.
That review has led to the correct conclusion: Project Atlas is not an appropriate use immediately across from Parkland High School. The proposed resolution recognizes that responsible economic development must never come at the expense of student safety, staff well-being, or the reliable operation of our schools.
Special acknowledgement is due to Vice President Chris Pirotta, who brought forward the motion at the Board’s last meeting to direct the administration to prepare this formal statement of opposition. We also thank the Board members who supported moving the resolution forward and have stood with Parkland families, students, educators, and the wider school community.
The October 20 vote was a move that makes Parkland’s position unmistakably clear: the health, safety, and educational environment of PHS comes come first.
